Sheena – 5-year-old, spayed female Rhodesian Ridgeback mix.
There are people in this world with dogs that simply do not want the dog anymore. There are always stories and long lists of reasons that mostly say, “I don’t understand the dog” and I don’t want to invest the time to try. And that is okay, for it is their loss. Sheena was taken to the vet’s office with a request to be put down. She is a young healthy and very sociable dog, and the veterinarian could not justify simply putting the dog down. They pleaded with the owners and obtained the dog’s release into their care.
TIRR is not in a position to take care of more dogs at this time, however a motivated dog lover can be very persistent. After a couple of weeks of persuasive argument and the vet’s promise to bring the dog to me from two states away I simply could not find it in my heart to refuse.
I won’t tell you that Sheena is the absolute perfect dog or that she is a Rhodesian Ridgeback. The veterinarian that brought her to me, who is also a RR owner, is convinced that she is more than half RR. Her personality and behavior certainly do not contradict this. Unlike some Ridgebacks she easily makes friends, no human is a stranger. She gets along well with other dogs while maintaining the attitude that she is just a little bit smarter than most dogs. She does voice her opinion a little more often than the average Ridgeback. She loves to be close to her people, perhaps to a fault as she is adamant about being involved in everything you do.
If you are looking for an exceptional, easy to live with and extremely lovable dog you can do no better than Sheena. She needs a home where she can be involved with all family activities and the center of attention whenever possible. If you believe a dog like Sheena can fill an empty space in your life, please consider this special young lady.
